To examine the quantity and quality of child language across media use and play, 25 children, ages 1. The audio files were reviewed and media use and play was spliced from the larger language sample.
Preliminary analysis shows a significant difference in language output within play and media use. Results suggest that media may in fact limit language opportunities. Children often use pragmatic language differently depending on the social setting as well as the listeners around them. When a child enters school, it is often the first time they are separated from their parents for an extended period of time. A parent may have a belief that their child may display pragmatic abilities in a certain manner when they are not present across all social environments.
The parent will complete a questionnaire that encompasses basic questions dealing with pragmatic abilities that are developmentally appropriate from their perspective. At the completion of this poster, the participants will be able to understand a parent's perspective and expectations of pragmatic aspects of speech acts theory, information structuring, and conversation analysis, among others, identify a child's pragmatic abilities in the absence of the parent across varying social environments, identify the impact of parental perspective and expectation on a child's development of pragmatic skills.

The purpose of this study was to examine possible differences between the mean and SD of speech and articulatory rate between PWC and typical speakers TS. Each participant was recorded during a monologue task and the number of syllables and phonemes per second were calculated in second intervals.
Preliminary results showed that although mean syllables per second were nearly the same for both groups A similar trend was noted with articulatory rate. Based on the above, speech-language pathologists SLPs and audiologists are at a dual-risk. Not only considered professional voice users, SLPs and audiologists are now expanding their practice remotely.
A few questions arise: Will the inclusion of nonverbal communication through visual feedback control for hypothesized vocal stress in an effort to overcome the absence of sidetone?
Will measurable aspects of communication differ using audio-only vs video communication? The purpose of this study was to examine a difference in measurable aspects of communication during audio-only remote communication versus audio and visual video remote communication.
Twenty participant pairs male-female were recorded during spontaneous conversation using FaceTime in both conditions and data were analyzed acoustically. Results showed no significant differences voicing parameters between the two conditions; however, increased conversational intensity levels were present in both, as compared to face-to-face conversation.
